Copyright

One article about copyright in the UK is UK Copyright Considerations for Records of Public Bodies by Alex Coles.

Hopefully we can get more here about copyright specifically for maps, and for other parts of the world.

Australia
  • maps published in or before 1954 are free of copyright
  • government-published maps after that date are copyright for 50 years (so anything published prior to 1966 is ok to republish from 2016)
  • non-government-published maps after that date are are copyright for 70 years (so are unavailable to republish without permission at the moment)
Info taken from National Library of Australia https://www.nla.gov.au/copyright-and-the-maps-collection who also have an excellent collection of historic maps online should you need one for Australia.

Can I legally share this map? is a simple statement about copyrights of maps in a US context.
