Is there any mileage in using an Open Source framework hosted on a server that has been tailored specifically for One-Place Studies?
Pros:
- We could all gain by having a ready-made system that others would understand as well
- It could be designed to be what we want
- We would be able more easily to get ideas from each other as to what sort of mapping is useful for one-place studies
- If any studies overlap they would be using a common system (but few of our studies overlap)
Cons:
- Someone would need to specify and build it, publicise it, manage it, document it, support it etc
- It would cost money to host
- We have many different needs, and interests/abilities, so would it just suit a few?
- Without active maintenance and improvement it could quickly get out of date
- There are not many among us with sufficient computer/mapping technical abilities to make it a cooperative effort (or are there?)
