General lists of geographic datasets

These are a few of the lists of geographic datasets available on the web. They are useful, but mostly deal with large scale data and cover similar ground:

• Free GIS Data - "a categorised list of links to over 300 sites providing freely available geographic datasets", including to some national mapping agencies
• List of GIS data sources - in Wikipedia
• Where can I find free GIS data? - "a list of 10 free, downloadable global GIS datasets from highly reputable sources"
• Cultivating Spatial Intelligence: Sources of Spatial Data from Paul B Cote's pbcGIS is a useful description of issues and strategies
• The OSGeo Geodata Repository has a list of available datasets

In the UK:

• The Edina ShareGeo Open website enables you to search for and download geospatial datasets by defining a search box on a map, although they tend to be datasets covering a large area
• Under Public Geodata for the UK on the OSGeo website they have two lists: Public Geodata for the UK wiki article and CKAN or datahub
