How to Use this Forum, FAQ and Help
« on: 22 January 2016, 05:20:48 »
Please be aware that I have no experience of setting up or running a forum like this, so I will be learning on the job. I know I will make mistakes, but hopefully we can make this a useful forum over time.

For a starting point to understanding how to use this SMF forum see SMF - Getting started. (Should you ever need to know, we are using version 2 of SMF.) You can also click on the Help menu item at the top left of any page of the forum. Do feel free to browse and contribute. Remember that the Testing, Testing board is available for you to practice on, should you want to.

Also available at the foot of every page are links to:
  • a Glossary - of a few one-place studies, mapping, and forum terms
  • BBCodes - (Bulletin Board Codes) which help to make posts look better
  • Feedback - where you can easily email me
FAQ
Q. Why do I have so many tabs in my browser?
A. In most browsers each external link opens a new tab, so you need to close the tab rather than use the Back button

Q. Can I use a language other than English?
A. This forum is using only English at the moment.

Q. Why is much of this forum so UK-focused?
A. This is because I am starting off with what I am aware of, and I am English, but I am hoping that we will make it more balanced as people contribute form around the world and we discover more.
