Stamen - interesting map styles
« on: 4 January 2017, 06:45:34 »
Stamen is building web services and open source tools to display public data in easy-to-understand, highly visual ways (part of the CityTracking project funded by the Knight Foundation).  They include:
  • Toner - high-contrast B+W (black and white) maps
  • Terrain - featuring hill shading and natural vegetation colors
  • Watercolor - Reminiscent of hand drawn maps
  • Burning Map - with fiery animations
  • Mars - from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter
  • Trees, Cabs & Crime - combines three data sets (street tree locations, taxi cab GPS positions, and crime reports) with subtractive blending to reveal halftones hidden in the urban fabric of San Francisco is a Society for One-Place Studies project supported by Grassroots Giving from Skipton Building Society
