Statoids - major administrative divisions of countries
« on: 30 November 2017, 02:54:57 »
The land area of the world is divided into countries. Most of the countries are, in turn, divided into smaller units. These units may be called states, provinces, regions, governorates, and so on. A phrase that describes them all is "major administrative divisions of countries", or "statoid" for short.

The Statoids website is a guide to Internet sites about the statoids of each country. It can be used independently, but it is meant to be an update to the book "Administrative Subdivisions of Countries", by Gwillim Law. A description of what is covered etc can be found on the details page.

Note that since Gwillim died in 2016, Mapzen have announce a partnership with Statoids to allow their data to be included in Who’s On First and Mapzen Places is a Society for One-Place Studies project supported by Grassroots Giving from Skipton Building Society
