As of February 2016 MapStory is going through a major upgrade, and some things do not work properly yet. There is a
Wiki with the start of useful information.

Composing a MapStory gives interesting insights into what is possible in MapStory. Essentially you:
- add StoryLayers by uploading GIS information (either as points from a spreadsheet, or shapes from a GIS system)
- style the StoryLayers, eg with colours, sizes
- configure the StoryLayers into StoryBoxes (the 'chapters' of your 'story')
- add StoryPins - images, videos and other forms of media elements with a geographic location and temporal extent
Your MapStory is then available on the MapStory.org website for all the world to see.

Technically the current version of MapStory.org was built by Boundless Geo on top of their existing software stack (PostGIS, GeoServer, OpenLayers, GeoNode).
